OVERVIEW: Telanthera is a desirable plant that manifests in lovely shades of green, purple, red and pink.
HABITAT: Rivers, lakes, swamps, occasionally terrestrial.
NATIVE RANGE: South America
MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 20 inch (50cm).
LIGHTING: Bright.
WATER: 75 - 80 F (24 - 27 C); pH - slightly acidic; Hardness - soft to moderately hard.
FEEDING: This plant benefits from a fine, fertile substrate with nitrogen and phosphorous fertilization. It does very well with supplemental CO2; however, it will grow fine without CO2 injection.
SPECIAL CARE: Strong lighting is the key to maintaining this wonderful midground plant, without which it looses colour, and the leaves rot as the stems lengthen for the light. Follow the caveats about light and food. Do not crowd Telanthera; it requires elbow room and gentle water circulation to achieve its full potential.
PROPAGATION: Stem cutings rooted in substrate. Using stems that already have nodal roots increases the success rate. Can also be grown from seed.
NOTES: Roots form on the stem nodes to absorb nutrients from the water. Do not remove these roots; they are working parts, bringing nutrients directly from the water to every plant part. Pruning tips encourages bushy growth.
