OVERVIEW: Bolivinianus is a splendid but somewhat difficult specimen plant for a large aquarium. Its full seersucker ripples leaves make it one of the most beautiful of the Aponogetons.
HABITAT: Rivers and streams with strong currents.
NATIVE RANGE: Madagascar and outlying islands.
MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 24 inch (60cm)
LIGHTING: Bright light is best. At lower levels of light intensity, the plant's leaves will be stunted.
WATER: 68-79 f (20-26 C); pH: mildly acidic to mildly alkaline; Hardness: soft to moderately Hard.
FEEDING: Add nutrients to the substrate, and CO2 fertilization to the aquarium.
SPECIAL CARE: Make sure there is good current in the aquarium. Because this plant is found in moving water, experts agree that the current is one of the requirements for this species success. Place Bolivinianus near a powerhead or filter outflow.
PROPAGATION: from seed or polination.
NOTES: Bolivinianus is not abundant even in the wild, and it takes some dedication to keep it long term in captivity. Do not use a tightly packed substrate - loose with good water circulation around the roots and through the leaves is best. Bolivinianus requires a dormant period, though the timing is unpredictable, starting spontaneously and ending the same way. When dormancy begins, reduce the light and lower the temperature. The Tuber can be stored in damp moss in a temperate environment.
