Product Description

OVERVIEW: This is an ideal midground specimen plant with light green ruffled edged leaves. The leaves can develop a reddish cast in brighter lighting.
HABITAT: Variable habitats from still to moving waterways in shade and sunlight; found in temporary pools as well ad permanent bodies of water.
NATIVE RANGE: Madagascar.
MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 16 inch (40cm).
LIGHTING: very bright lighting preferred, but it will thrive in moderate lighting as well.
WATER: 75-82 F (24-27 C); pH: Acidic to neutral; Hardness: moderately soft to hard.
FEEDING: CO2 fertilization and nutritious substrate preferred.
SPECIAL CARE: Adequate fertilization, lighting and space are key to optimal development of this popular Aponogeton.
PROPAGATION: Best grown from seed. Rarely by adventitious plantlets.
NOTES: This is one of the most useful of the genus, as it will not become a burden through excessive height and one root can prouce many leaves - sometimes as many as 50. There are several varieties; some require dormancy and some do not. Those Ulvaceus with purple flowers are easier to propagate and do not require a rest period, while thoise with yellow and white plowers are a little more difficult to reproduce and do require dormancy. There are many hybrids of this species, so it is difficult to discern which is a true species.
