OVERVIEW: Giant Bacopa is an aromatic, easy to grow mid to background stemmed plant. Its growth rate is moderate, so there is not concern that this plant is going to take over the aquarium.
HABITAT: This perennial creeping marsh plant grows emersed in shallow areas and submerged in deeper waters. It is sometimes found in slightly brackish waters.
NATIVE RANGE: The southern States of North America and Central America.
MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 24 inch (60cm).
LIGHTING: Bright.
WATER: 72-77 F (22-25 C); pH: Neutral; Hardness; moderately soft water preferred.
FEEDING: CO2 not required. Fertilize regularly.
SPECIAL CARE: No special care required.
PROPAGATION: Easily reproduced from cutings planted in the substrate.
NOTES: Use a plain gravel or sandy substrate. If allowed to grow emersed, Giant Bacopa will produce attractive flowers. Flowers that occur underwater will rot. Plant Giant Bacopa in groups about 2 inches apart for the most attractive effect. The bright light green smallish oval leaves will provide a nice contrast to other plants in the aquarium. In very bright light, the leaves may turn reddish. The tender leaves of Giant Bacopa are very tempting to herbivorous fishes, so avoid keeping plant eating fishes with this plant unless you intend for it to be used as a vegetable fish food.
