OVERVIEW: Rotala spp. Are 'wish list' plants. These challenging stem plants are highly prized for their intense and varied colours. The wavy leaves are thin and delicate and without a balance of high quality nutrients and plenty of light the plants will simply melt into the substrate.
HABITAT: Quiet shallow waters and banks, also wet soil.
NATIVE RANGE: Southern India.
MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 24 inch (60 cm)
LIGHTING: Bright if not intense light is absolutley required.
WATER: 72-82 F (22-28 C); pH Acidic; Hardness: Soft to medium hard.
FEEDING If CO2 is not supplied, the deficit needs to be compensated in the dosing of micro and marcro nutrients. Low Nitrite and High Potassium result in compact bushy growth.
SPECIAL CARE: Tip and prune the plants to achieve the desired shape and size and to maximise light to the entire plant.
PROPAGATION: Stem cuttings.
NOTES: Will not tolerate still water or poor water conditions of any kind. Can grow very quickly.
