OVERVIEW: The long strappy leaves of the Vallisneria sp. Are among the most familiar of the aquatic plants. Easy to grow and undemanding in all regards, this plant is perfect for beginners and experienced alike.
HABITAT: Still or flowing waters, usually forming a dense momoculture. Estuaries, lakes, water courses and wetlands.
NATIVE RANGE: Cosmopolitan.
MAXIMUM HEIGHT: 22 inch (55 cm).
LIGHTING: Medium.
WATER: 59-86 F (15-30 C); pH Alkaline; Hardness: Hard. Brackish water is acceptible.
FEEDING: Use a nutritious substrate and normal applications of fertiliser in the water. Iron will be appreciated. CO2 is not required.
SPECIAL CARE: Do not bury the crown. Place the roots in the substrate, but keep the juncture of the roots and crown above the gravel.
PROPAGATION: Runners, Seeds.
One of the easiest plants to grow, vals are often the only plants in the aquarium.
